about

A song about what Christmas is like on the Southern most tip of mainland Australia

lyrics

Christmas on the Yanakie Isthmus

They have been writing songs of Christmas, It seems for a million years
But out on the Yanakie Isthmus they all fall on deaf ears
Paul Kelly came close, with his line about the roast
But if there was no sauce in the gravy, no one here would notice

And no one dreams of a white Christmas, And most won’t get a silent night;
The cows will still get restless, even with the holy light

Chorus
So raise your glass to whoever, reigns in your world
Toast to the fallen, the frail and the flawed
Just give us thanks for another year Let us sing Happy Christmas again…

We don’t celebrate our thanksgiving for all we embrace
And Australia Day is just too damn confusing for all of us to face
But come December, with the flies, the heat and the snakes
Will celebrate our good fortunes, or drink to our mistakes

Some still pray for Jesus Most will pray for rain
The only thing about Christmas, that will always stay the same

So raise your glass to whoever, reigns in your world
Toast to the fallen, the frail and the flawed
There are no carols, there are no Kings
Make us all wise men, give us thanks for another year
Let us sing Happy Christmas again…
We will all sing happy Christmas, sing happy Christmas, let us sing happy Christmas again

Its easy to be forgotten, here at the bottom of the world
We tune in and watch in horror at all we observe
We have learnt to mock and joke at the seriousness of it all
Come Christmas, we will give thanks to our solitary southern shore

So raise your glass to whoever, reigns in your world
Toast to the fallen, the frail and the flawed
There are no carols, there are no Kings
Make us all wise men, give us thanks for another year
Let us sing Happy Christmas again…
Yes let us sing Happy Christmas again….We will all sing happy Christmas, sing happy Christmas, let us sing happy Christmas again

As with any journey there are bumps and cracks along the way. New single, Midnight Train releases Feb 12, 2024
